The illustrations by Joanne Fitzgerald are OK, but gosh… this book was just impossible.
“Little Red Riding Hood” by The Brothers Grimm
Nicely illustrated by Bernadette Watts. The Grimm’s version with the hunter torturing the wolf instead of killing him tells a lot about early nineteenth-century esthetic and moral sensibilities but could be easily spared for contemporary children, without loosing the clue of the story.

“Finn MacCoul and His Fearless Wife” by Robert Byrd
Robert Byrd is certainly better illustrator than a storyteller but this book is just fine. Oonagh, the fearless wife, nicely adds to the small gallery of positive female characters, which are adult, wise, clever, fearless and yet do not practice witchcraft for living, so to speak.
For Irishmen, the Celt fan clubs, feminists, and others.
